Comments: Joshua Tree National Park murder case racks up probation violations 1:26 p.m. PST Nov. 21, 2019 A woman convicted of aiding a man, charged with murder, to evade arrest after they allegedly dumped a dead body in Joshua Tree National Park has racked up 14 violations while in court-ordered drug rehabilitation and has left custody two months early, according to a probation report. Deputy Probation Officer Lester Jackson filed a report on Nov. 7, 2019, claiming Ashlie Stapp violated her probation and ought to serve more time in jail. Stapp is scheduled to appear in court Friday regarding the probation violations. Lester wrote in the report that Stapp is out of custody, but that a letter has been sent to her last known address informing her she needs to appear in court. Lester declined to say whether the department knows where Stapp has been for the past two weeks. Riverside County Probation Department administrators did not return The Desert Sun's repeated requests for more information. According to prosecutors, Curtis Krueger, a former Marine previously stationed in Twentynine Palms, attacked Henry Alan Stange in his home twice in a matter of months in 2018. Investigator testimony provided during Krueger's preliminary hearing in June painted a picture of a love triangle gone awry as Krueger and Stange were both romantically involved with Stapp. After sending threatening text messages, Krueger allegedly attacked Stange with a hammer in May 2018, leaving the man badly beaten but still alive. A second attack in May would prove lethal. Detectives testified that Krueger traveled to Stange's Murietta home on May 24 and attacked him while he was in his garage, leaving evidence of a struggle and pool of blood found days later by detectives. Prosecutors allege that Stapp was in the house while the attack occurred. Krueger loaded Stange, who prosecutors believe was still alive, into his truck with Stapp's help. Phone location records show they then drove to Joshua Tree National Park. About a week later a hiker reported spotting vultures in the park circling near a popular campground. Rangers found the body and the subsequent homicide investigation was tracked back to Stange's home. Stapp was charged with kidnapping for allegedly helping Krueger transport Stange to the national park and attempt to bury the body, while Krueger faces one charge each of murder and assault with a deadly weapon. Stapp took a plea deal in June and had the kidnapping charge dismissed, but was convicted of one count of harboring a person suspected of committing a felony. As a part of her plea deal, she was sentenced to 309 days in custody and and three years probation. With credit for time served while the case was being litigated, Stapp was ultimately sentenced to 180 days at an inpatient residential substance abuse program, according to a statement from the District Attorney's Office. She completed 137 days at the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in Anaheim, about 40 days shy of her 180-day sentence, according to the probation officer's November report. From June 30 to at least Oct. 30, according to the probation report, Stapp allegedly violated the facility's rules against "contraband, fraternizing with male participants, lights on after 10 p.m., trading clothes with other participants, failing to complete workshop paperwork on time, no sponsor signature for AA meetings, and leaving personal drawer unlocked." "It appears the defendant did not take the grant of probation seriously," Probation Officer Lester Jackson wrote, "as evidenced by the failure to complete her rehabilitation treatment." A spokesperson for the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said Stapp is not currently in the county jail system — with no comment from the probation department, her current whereabouts is unknown to the public.
